MISS LAINIE'S STORY

Miss Lainie and her threee boys, Alec, seth & Clay,

As a child growing up in the Bay Area in the 70s, I struggled with learning, especially reading from the very beginning. In fact, my parents hired a tutor for me starting in the first grade and it wasn’t until the sixth grade my tutor felt I was ready to go on my own! But even with all the wonderful tutoring, school didn’t get any easier for me.

I trudged through my remaining school years and became a master of creative coping mechanisms: patterning to get through tests; “cheating” to make it in demanding classes. With a great deal of effort, struggle, and determination I managed to graduate from high school, successfully complete college and even went on to graduate school to earn a master’s degree in education. It was during my master's program that I discovered the different learning styles and strategies. I finally understood why I had struggled so much and decided to make it my life's work to ensure no other child had to endure the same pain that I had as a child.

My mission is to eliminate children's frustration at not being able to learn like other people, or what's known as the "traditional" learning style. I want children to know that it is really OK to be different!

I started to teach children the way I understood information best: through the eyes, the hands, and the body. For 28 years, I taught in the "traditional" classroom—kindergarten through 8th grade—but I knew I could have a much bigger impact on the world by going out on my own with Lainie's Learning Lane.

My ongoing passion is to educate parents and help their children let go of their pain and frustration and develop a lifelong love of learning.

I can't wait to help you and your family.

Warmly,
Miss Lainie, M.A. Ed.
